Congratulations to Our Science Enthusiasts!
On Saturday, February 25th, the Dallas Regional Science and Engineering Fair was held at Fair Park. We had two middle school teams participating.
Our 8th grade team of Anika Vij and Sujal Manohar tested how the angle of a tsunami wave affected its height. They received an honorable mention award.
Our 6th grade team of Naman Adenwala and Ishaan Manohar tested whether a metal or wooden baseball bat hit a ball further, depending on the location on the bat where the impact takes place. They won 3rd place in the mechanical engineering category! They will be moving on to the Texas Science and Engineering Fair in San Antonio March 30-April 1. They will also be honored at a luncheon at SMU on March 21st.
Please congratulate all of them and encourage students to participate next year!

Go Maggie!
On January 28th, senior Maggie Munoz traveled to Houston to audition for the theatre programs of over 40 universities. The average student garners 3-5 call backs from this audition and Maggie was incredibly called back by 14 schools. Upon interviewing with the most prestigious of those 14, Maggie found out she had gained admission into three of those colleges based solely on her audition. One of those three schools was Oklahoma City University, home of the highly selective musical theatre program that Kristen Chenoweth graduated from. Maggie even received a congratulations tweet on Twitter from Kristen Chenoweth herself! Please take a minute to congratulate her on her enormous success this weekend if you see her!
Congratulations Albert Aguirre & Justin Smith!
On Saturday, January 21st, the team of Albert Aguirre and Justin Smith competed at Plano Senior High in a Programming contest. They placed 3rdagainst three person teams. They were the only non 5A team there! Congratulate them if you see them in the hall!

Our Middle School Swim Team is Unstoppable!!
A fabulous, fun meet was had the weekend before Christmaswhen 5 of our m/s swimmers represented NHP in the Christmas Classic. Manogna swam her 1st meet and turned out 5 decent races, Johnathan swam in 6 events and had a great head-to-head with Alex in the 50 free, with them both coming 1st and 2nd in their heat and dropping alot of time in the process! Ishan continues to gain confidence and competed well in his 4 events, Liberty clearly loves to compete, and Alex is proving practice really does make perfect. The last event was the Reindeer relay with our 5 swimmer reindeer pulling Santa along in the water - a lot of fun! This was the 2nd meet in 3 days for Liberty, Johnathan and Alex; quite a feat. Swimmer of the meet was Johnathan because he literally had 1 race straight after another and just quietly got on with it, even coming 1st in his heat of 7 boys for the 100IM, not an easy race for a new swimmer. Next meet was at Greenhill School Thursday 12th January and soon time for Districts end of January.
Ishan and Liberty showing how it is done!
Congratulations to Our All-Region Band Members!
Congratulations to John Nam (MS), Pierce Husin (MS), and Sheila Husin (US) for representing our school at the All-Region Band Concert at Prosper High School January 13th & 14th. They represented us well. John Nam was the First Chair saxophone student in the top Symphonic Band for Middle School making him the top sax student in our region this year!!
Watch Out for the Primary UIL Team!
The primary UIL students traveled to Life School Red Oak early yesterday morning to compete in the District UIL Elementary Meet. North Hills added up an outstanding total of 393 points, putting us in 2nd Place Overall for the day, just shy of #1 Sunnyvale’s accrued points. Students and coaches learned a lot and are extremely proud of this accomplishment, as this was our first year competing as a primary campus in the elementary district meet. A shout out goes to the parents for all of their support, teachers and administration for their cooperation, and the coaches for their student guidance and learning the “ropes of UIL” from the ground up. I think we have officially memorized the UIL handbook!!
The students are our shining stars and we are so impressed with how much they practiced and studied on their own outside of practice, as well as for their behavior. They all represented North Hills extremely well yesterday and we cannot wait to participate again next year. The 5th graders will make a great addition to the 6th grade Middle School teams next year!

North Hills Preparatory 8th Grade Student Selected for Olympic Development Program
Julianna Summerlin, 8th grade, was selected for the 1997 Girls Olympic Development Program, Region III. Summerlin, a member of NHP’s middle school soccer and volleyball teams, was one of 14 chosen to join a pool of 51 girls in the age group.
The US youth Soccer Olympic Development Program identifies elite level players and facilitates their selection to the U.S. National Team programs. The selection process takes place through state, regional and national trials. The primary benefit to the player is to be able to try out, train and play against the best players in their age group, allowing the best players to further their development as soccer players. Players are evaluated on the four components that make up a soccer player: 1. technique, 2. tactics, 3. fitness and athletic ability, and 4. psychological component (attitude). In addition to NHP sports, Summerlin also plays competitive soccer with Coach James Spence and the Mustang FC ‘98 Navy soccer club, Lake Highlands League, Division II.
