Parents-

I’m excited to share a recent change that the Uplift Board approved in their December meeting.  Starting in the 2013-14 school year, all Uplift schools will be referred to as “Uplift ___” (e.g., Uplift Williams Preparatory, Uplift Pinnacle Preparatory, etc).  Our purpose for doing this is two-fold.  First, as our network grows bigger, it is harder for those external to the organization to remember all the great schools that fall under the Uplift umbrella.  Second, we want to create another way to connect all of our schools together and build internal pride in being part of a high-performing network of schools that has a track record of 100% college acceptance.

We have no intention of  this change negatively impacting your family or scholar.  Hence below is what you and your scholar will still find the same for next year:

-          School colors, mascot, motto, cheers

-          Exterior and interior signage unless it is time for them to be replaced

-          Uniforms and spirit shirts/ products purchased during this school year or before are more than welcome to be worn

What changes you will see:

-          Any new uniforms or spirit shirts/ products sold for 2013-14 and years thereafter will reflect new school name

-          School websites will reflect new name

-          Hopefully your student starting to refer to their school as “Uplift ___”

Estoy muy emocionada de compartir un cambio reciente que la mesa directiva de Uplift ha aprobado en su última junta de diciembre. Empezando el año escolar 2013-14, todas las escuelas de Uplift serán referidas como “Uplift ___” (ejemplo, Uplift Williams Preparatory, Uplift Pinnacle Preparatory, etc).  Hay dos propósitos por los cuales estamos haciendo esto. Primero, es que nuestra red esta creciendo, es más difícil para esas personas externas de la organización de acordarse de todas las maravillosas escuelas que pertenecen a Uplift. Segundo, queremos crear otra manera de conectar todas nuestras escuelas juntas y construir un orgullo interno de ser parte de una red de escuelas de alto desempeño que tiene un record de un 100% de aceptación a la Universidad.

No tenemos intención de que este cambio tenga un impacto negativo para su familia y sus hijos. Por lo tanto, a continuación es lo que usted y su hijo seguirán encontrando el próximo ano:

-          Los colores de la escuela, mascota, lema.

-          Signos internos y externos a menos de que sea tiempo de cambiarlos

-          Uniformes y playeras de espíritu / Productos comprados durante este ano escolar  o anteriormente son bienvenidos a usarlos.

Que cambios verá:

-          Cualquier uniforme o playeras de espíritu/ productos vendidos para el ano escolar 2013-2014 y los próximos años reflejarán el nuevo nombre de la escuela.

-          La página web reflejará el nuevo nombre

-          Esperamos que sus estudiantes empiecen a referirse a su escuela como “ Uplift Williams Preparatory”

2013 DuPont Challenge

The 2013 DuPont Challenge is a competition for 7–12^th grade students to research and write a 700-to 1000-word science essay. Submissions will be accepted between November 15, 2012, and January 31, 2013. Prizes total $100,000 including U.S. Savings Bonds for all the winners and a special awards trip to Orlando, Florida, for the top two students in each division, to be joined by a parent and sponsoring teacher. Designed to inspire young people to excel in scientific writing, the competition invites students to write an essay about a scientific discovery, theory, event, or technological application that has captured their interest.  Additional information is available at http://thechallenge.dupont.com/.

Dear Parents,

It is with deep regret that we inform you about a recent loss to our Williams Prep community. On Friday evening, one of our Juniors, Angeles Ipiña and her parents were involved in a serious automobile accident. While her parents remain stable and are recovering from their injuries, Angeles’ injuries were too severe. Sadly, she did not survive. This loss is sure to raise many emotions, concerns, and questions for our entire school, especially our students and we have worked to help them cope with this tragedy today, both by having an extended advisory reflection and a counseling center set up with trained counselors from across our network. We will continue to support those students who might struggle with this loss. 

We have enclosed some information that may be useful to you in helping your child at home. If you would like additional information or need assistance, please do not hesitate to contact our Counselor Shelley McNamee, Mr. Fulce or Ms. de la Rosa. All of our staff will be happy to help you support your students during this time.

We are saddened by the loss to our school community and will make every effort to help you and your child as you need.  When funeral services are arranged, we will share that information with you as well as any needs that the family might have during this difficult time.

Queridos Padres de Familia,

Lamentamos profundamente comunicarle la perdida reciente de uno de nuestros alumnos de la preparatoria Williams. En la tarde de este viernes pasado, uno de nuestros alumnos del onceavo grado, Angeles Ipiña y sus padres sufrieron un grave accidente automovilístico. Los padres se encuentran actualmente estables, pero aun están recuperándose de sus lesiones. Sin embargo, Ángeles sufrió lesiones muy severas e irreversibles. Obviamente esta pérdida ha creado conmoción, preocupaciones y preguntas a nuestra escuela completa, especialmente a nuestros estudiantes. Nosotros hemos trabajado con ellos para ayudarles a lidiar con esta tragedia el día de hoy teniendo una clase de “advisory” para reflexionar y darles consejería con consejeros entrenados de nuestras escuelas uplifteducation. Seguiremos continuando con el apoyo ofrecido a los estudiantes quienes posiblemente estén luchando emocionalmente con esto.

Nosotros le compartimos información que posiblemente sea de ayuda para su estudiante en casa. Information is now posted on the City’s Web site regarding West Nile Virus and Aerial Spraying.  There are several documents that can be shared with citizens to help educate them.  As soon as we have specific information on day/time of aerial spraying (and maps) we will update the special Web site with that information and continue to push it out information. .
