Director's Notes

July 10, 2012

We are so pleased that you have chosen explore Hampton Preparatory for your child’s education.   We would love to embark on this journey with you.  At Hampton Preparatory, we encourage our students to question and evaluate information critically, seek out and explore links between subjects, and develop the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to appreciate their role in the world.  Our students participate in a rigorous, internationally recognized program that allows them to gain the self-confidence to act individually and collaboratively.  In May of 2012, The Washington Post ranked  Hampton Preparatory’s high school as the 41st best high school in the United States.  This is a testament of the great work that the teachers and staff are doing at Hampton.

Hampton Preparatory is affiliated with the Uplift Education network of public charter schools.  Our school opened in the fall of 2007 with a mere 160 students in grades 5th, 6th, 7th, and 9th grades.  During the 2012-2013 school year, we will enroll well over 800 students in grades kindergarten through 3rd  and 6th through 12th.  By the fall of 2015, we anticipate an enrollment of over 1,300 students in grades Kindergarten through 12th grades.

Hampton Preparatory is a candidate school for the Middle Years Programme (MYP) of the International Baccalaureate for grades 6th – 10th.  The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who help create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

In addition to the MYP, we implemented Project Lead the Way (PLTW) in the fall of 2011.  PLTW prepares students to be the most innovative and productive leaders in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and to make meaningful, pioneering contributions to our world.  Through an engaging, hands-on curriculum, PLTW encourages the development of problem-solving skills, critical thinking, creative and innovative reasoning, and a love for learning.

We are confident that we can provide your student a world-class education that will allow him/her to successfully pursue his/her goals.  If you have any questions or would like more specific information, feel free to contact me at charris@uplifteducation.org or (972) 421-1982.  We look forward to working with you to assure your child’s future success.

Respectfully,

Corey Harris,
