Uplift Healthcare Career and College Prep Institutes

Each of the pathways offers scholars a range of future careers. Below are a few examples of patient and non-patient careers and estimated salaries that our scholars will have an opportunity to pursue depending on which pathway they choose and when they decide to join the workforce.

For those joining the workforce directly after high school:

• $35,000 - Certified Medical Assistant (patient) | Medical Records Technician and Billing Specialist (non-patient)
• $45,000 - Licensed Vocational Nurse (patient) | Forensic Science Technician (non-patient)
• $75,000 - Dental Hygienist (patient) | Purchasing Agent (non-patient)

For those who plan to join the workforce after college (4 years, 2 years, and graduate studies):

• $85,000 - Registered Nurse (patient) | Transportation, Storage, and Distribution Managers (non-patient)
• $120,000 - Nurse Practitioner (patient) | Purchasing and Supply Chain Managers (non-patient)
• $200,000+ - Medical Doctor & Surgeons (patient)

Through Uplift scholar career surveys, scholars identified healthcare as one of their top 3 industries of interest. Additionally, according to a Texas Workforce Commission Labor Market analysis, the demand for all healthcare occupations is expected to grow at a much faster rate than all occupations combined. Recent projections indicate employment in Healthcare Occupations will grow 18.4 % by 2028, adding more than 190,000 new jobs.

No, at this time Uplift does not provide transportation to and from school. Families and scholars are responsible for their own transportation to and from school.

Uplift Healthcare High Schools will provide services for English Learners. Individual LPACs (Language Proficiency Assessment Committees) will make recommendations about the most appropriate services for each scholar.

Uplift Education offers four Healthcare Pathways:

• Healthcare Operations  (Uplift Heights Healthcare Institute) 

• Healthcare Diagnostics and Therapeutic  (Uplift Heights Healthcare Institute) 

• Biomedical Science  (Uplift Heights Healthcare Institute) 

• Nursing  (Heights Healthcare Institute & Uplift Grand High School) 

These pathways provide a comprehensive education to prepare students for a variety of careers in the healthcare industry, including industry-based certifications. 

• Uplift Heights Healthcare Institute offers all four pathways: Healthcare Operations, Healthcare Therapeutic, Biomedical Science, and Nursing. 

• Uplift Grand offers the Nursing pathway only for academic year 25-26. 

• Healthcare Operations: Focuses on occupational and educational opportunities associated with planning, directing, and coordinating the administrative services and operations of an organization. It includes formulating policies, managing daily operations, and allocating the use of materials and human resources. This program of study also introduces students to mathematical modeling tools and organizational evaluation methods.  

• Healthcare Therapeutics & Diagnostic Services: Focuses on occupational and educational opportunities associated with diagnosing and treating acute, episodic, or chronic illness independently or as part of a healthcare team. This program of study includes exploration of patient treatment and rehabilitative programs that help build or restore daily living skills to people with disabilities or developmental delays.  

• Biomedical Science: Focuses on occupational and educational opportunities associated with the study of biology and medicine. This program of study includes researching and diagnosing diseases, pre-existing conditions, and other determinants of health. Students will also practice patient care and communication. 

• Nursing: Focuses on occupational and educational opportunities associated with patient care. This program of study includes the practice of caring for patients, performing routine procedures such as monitoring vital signs, developing, and 
  implementing care plans, maintaining medical records, and managing disease or pain. 

To apply, students must follow the regular Uplift Education application process. When applying, students should indicate their healthcare school choice by applying to either Uplift Heights Healthcare Institute or Uplift Grand. Students may preference first, second, and third choice schools.

Yes, students can transfer between pathways, but it depends on their grade level and availability within the programs. It is recommended that students discuss their options with a counselor to ensure a smooth transition between pathways. 

Students who complete a Healthcare Pathway can pursue various careers, including:   

• Healthcare Operations: Health services manager, medical office administrator, coder associate, access services representative, supply chain technician.   

• Healthcare Therapeutics & Diagnostic Services: Medical assistant, radiologic assistant, respiratory assistant, physical therapist, occupational therapist, sterile processing tech. 

• ,Biomedical Science: Medical Assistant, Laboratory technician, cytopath assistant, biomedical researcher, phlebotomist, and pathology technician.  

• Nursing: Patient care tech, medical assistant, registered nurse, nurse practitioner, or further nursing specialization with additional education. 

Students in the Healthcare Pathways programs will have opportunities for internships, lab work, and clinical experience. Uplift Education collaborates with Baylor Scott & White Health (BSWH) to provide practical, real-world experiences through collaboration, ensuring students are well-prepared for their future careers. 

Uplift Education is collaborating with Baylor Scott & White Health (BSWH) to enhance healthcare education through mentorship, hands-on clinical experiences, and career development. This partnership was supported by a $14.9 million grant from Bloomberg Philanthropies, which will help elevate the healthcare programs across Uplift schools. 

Additionally, qualified students will have a direct pathway to employment with BSWH, where they can take advantage of tuition reimbursement to further their education.

Students will gain critical skills, certifications, and experiences that significantly improve their career prospects in the healthcare field, providing opportunities for various certifications needed for employment. Our program provides preferential job opportunities with Baylor Scott & White Health - whether a scholar joins the workforce directly from High School or after completion of a 2 or 4 year degree.

There is no cost to participate in the Healthcare Pathways programs at Uplift Education. However, some pathways may require specific supplies or uniforms.

The Healthcare Pathways programs are designed to prepare students for both immediate entry into the workforce and further education. The coursework integrates college preparatory focused curriculum and opportunities with healthcare-specific training aligned to healthcare careers, giving students a head start in college-level healthcare programs. Additionally, each pathway offers robust dual credit opportunities.

Students in the Healthcare Pathways programs have access to a variety of supports, including:   

• Guidance counselors to help with academic planning and career goals from our Road to College and Career Team.   

• Internships and mentorship opportunities through partnerships with healthcare providers, including Baylor Scott & White Health to provide career preparation and career guidance. 

• We offer health science curriculum aligned to pathway careers developed in collaboration with Baylor Scott & White Health. This will ensure scholars receive amble support for successful career.  

• Uplift scholars in the program are eligible for tuition assistance.  

No, this program is open to all current 8th grade scholars provided there are seats available in the respective school. Please remember that you must complete your scholar’s re-enrollment documentation and select Yes/No when prompted about your scholar's interest in the healthcare program.  

Baylor Scott & White Health and Uplift Education are teaming up to offer a dedicated healthcare high school (Uplift Heights) and a healthcare pathway at a 2nd Uplift high school (Uplift Grand). Through these avenues, students will have opportunities to directly learn from current Baylor Scott & White team members, earn certifications and ultimately have an opportunity to step into a career at Baylor Scott & White. This is beneficial to Baylor Scott & White as they work to fill their positions that are in high demand. 

Baylor Scott & White is the largest not-for-profit healthcare system in Texas with more than 1,200 access points and 51 hospitals. Baylor Scott & White will support the programming at both high schools by helping design the curriculum, pairing students with a Baylor Scott & White mentor, and offering guest speakers, filed trips, hospital-based internships, and summer camps. 

While other education models teach scholars needed skills, no other program connects students directly with a large local employer and an opportunity to a path toward a job and career. Additionally, our curriculum is written through a lens of healthcare.
