Why Uniforms?

Uplift Education Schools require each scholar to wear uniform to school according to the uniform guidelines below. Families can choose to purchase uniforms from the following vendors:

Uplift Education has chosen for all scholars to wear uniforms to school for several reasons:

Uniforms unite students as a community. The consistent Uplift uniform serves as a powerful visual statement of community. When scholars are dressed in their uniforms, they make a commitment to model the school’s values.

Uniforms reduce distractions and clothing competition. Often scholars spend more time discussing and evaluating what others are wearing or not wearing, than they spend focusing on learning. Wearing uniforms reduces this distraction.

Uniforms promote equality. Regardless of economic status, the scholars come to school looking the same way. By wearing a uniform, no one is diminished for what they wear, and scholars are not able to compare what they do or do not have.

Uniforms promote safety. Uniforms create an environment where outsiders are more easily recognized

General Policies

All scholars must come to school in uniform every day (unless denoted by their campus for a special event). Shirts should be tucked in and free from obvious stains, rips, or other damage. If a scholar arrives at school out of uniform, parents/guardians are notified and asked to bring in a uniform. If the school has extra uniforms on hand, staff may have the child change himself/herself into the borrowed clothing. If Uplift lends clothing, families are responsible for washing and returning the items within three school days. Any parent who needs financial assistance to purchase school uniforms should contact the school office.

Headwear/Hair Color/Facial Hair/Jewelry & Makeup

  • Hats, Caps, Visors, Sunglasses or other headwear are not allowed, except for cultural head covers. Hair accessories and cultural head covers must match uniform colors
  • Makeup, nail polish or jewelry cannot be a distraction, nor can it impede upon student learning or school activities.

ID Badges

Identification badges are considered part of the uniform code. All scholars must wear a school identification badge. Scholars will be given an identification badge and a lanyard at the beginning of the school year. The ID Badge should be worn at all times and be free of any mutilation. Scholars with damaged, altered, defaced, or lost ID badges shall purchase a replacement ID badge. A replacement fee of $10.00 shall be assessed for each occurrence of a lost/damaged ID badge.
